Today, disaster recovery coverage is often limited to Tier 1 applications in larger datacenters. In many cases, Tier 2 or 3 applications at smaller sites do not have true disaster recovery protection and are protected only with backups. This is because traditional disaster recovery protection is cost prohibitive and too complex to be broadly applied to all applications and sites. Unfortunately, this level of disaster recovery protection leaves a substantial business risk as day-to-day activities still rely extensively on secondary and tertiary applications and smaller sites. Ideally, organizations should have a simple, cost-effective, reliable disaster recovery plan in place for all their applications and sites.

With the release of vCenter Site Recovery Manager 5 (SRM5), VMware's automated disaster recovery solution adds vSphere Replication capabilities which enable the protection of heterogeneous storage platforms to provide simple, cost-efficient backup and replication between vSphere clusters. Continū Continuity Cloud integrates with SRM 5 to provide a hosted replication target with dynamic auto-tiered storage ensuring customers' are able to easily manage and initiate automated recoveries of their most critical systems while minimizing the high costs of building and maintaining a backup datacenter.
