On the heels of a huge breach of Google accounts worldwide, a massive ransomware attack named WannaCry is causing significant alarm. As we learned, the initial attack vector was through spam email, often under the guise of invoices, job offers and other lures sent to random email addresses. Within the email is a .zip file and once clicked, that initiates the WannaCry infection. The attack targeted medical facilities that had pertinent information that they could not risk losing and gave into the demanded ransoms.
The good news for Continu MSP clients is that they were proactively protected from this attack.
Because of Continῡ’s MSP agent installed on client computers, end users computers already had the patch installed for their Microsoft desktops. Microsoft deployed a patch back in March and April this year when the vulnerability was discovered. Our agent automatically patches your desktops during the night on a regular schedule. This along with the updated antivirus and web protection being managed by our agent kept client desktops running normally. Our clients with the Appriver antivirus/Anti-Spam product in front of the email systems, have yet another suite of protection in from of their desktops. If you do not have this service, give us a call and let us explain how we can use added email protection for your company’s needs.
What does this mean to our clients?
This means that our clients can rest well knowing that Continῡ is proactively looking out for their best interests around the clock. Does this mean you have nothing to worry about? No. There has been an increase of large attacks over the last few months, and seem to be on the rise.
While there is no product out there that will stop all spam and viruses from getting through. The first control will always be good email habits of the end user:

- Continū has run across a few webinars on safe email habits. In order to help educate our client’s staff, we are looking to find one that is low cost and has great content, so that we can forward that information. We have several clients require their staff go through an entire safety training webinar annually to keep all of their staff up to date. We believe this is a great proactive process and are currently vetting several options. Once we have completed this, we will be presenting these options to all of our clients so they can select what works best for them.
